    Dear Fertility Doc,

I just met with my doctor today, and I'm concerned about the protocol she is planning. I am 42, AFC avgs 6, normal day 3 fsh / e2. During IUI, I get 2 - 5 follicles using 225iu bravelle.

    This is the protocol:

Start BCPs day 3 of cycle preceding IVF.
Add 10 units Lupron on day 19 preceding IVF
On CD 2 of the IVF cycle, lower Lupron to 5 units and continue until trigger, also start 225 fsh / 150 menapur.

I'm concerned that the length of time on Lupron will over-suppress me, and that the dose of fsh is not high enough.
Would really appreciate any input from you.

    Thanks very much,
    Sophie

    Dear Sophie,

In all fairness, your physician examined you personally, knows your history better as well there is a controversy over the issues of over- suppression and aggressive stimulation for IVF.

That being said, I recently had a 42 year old patient with a normal e2/fsh, an AFC of 6 who I stimulated

I had IVF almost 4 years ago and have frozen embryo's which I would like to use for a second child. How does a frozen cycle differ? what is the step by step process in general?

15% of Americans are afflicted with infertility. Certainly this is a disorder that can be effectively treated with Chinese medicine. But our success can be greater with a shift in attitude.

As practitioners of Chinese medicine we must be able to understand not only pathological factors but etiologies too. For example, a pathology leading to male factor infertility is low sperm count. Many TCM practitioners will automatically render treatment based upon the TCM diagnosis arrived at through the four examinations. This is all well and good and appropriate according the context of our training. There is, however, an inherent problem with this type of diagnosis.

Two months ago I had my first IVF cycle & it did not work. I was wondering what common reasons there are a body would reject the 2 embryos that seemed to look good on the 3rd day?

A few years ago I had a healthy child that came naturally with out even trying. In the past 2 years I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy resulting in removing a tube as well as a miscarriage. It’s hard to understand why it was so easy to get pregnant naturally a few years back & why everything we have done since that time has not worked. Also, if a fresh embryo transfer didn’t work on day 3, would you recommend trying a frozen transfer or a fresh transfer again? ...

The world’s oldest Mom after IVF, using donated eggs, is dying at age 72. It was just 18 months ago that she gave birth. When she was 70, Rajo Devi Lohan and her husband Balla underwent IVF treatments in Baddhu Patti, India, to conceive their only child, Naveen. Now 72, Rajo is bedridden and doesn’t have the strength to lift 18-month-old Naveen. She has never recovered from her pregnancy. Her uterus ruptured after her c-section and she suffered from internal bleeding. Rajo and Balla, 73, farmers who have not received any education, say they did not know it was high risk to ...

I have struggled for a few years now with the term "unexplained infertility." My husband and I have been trying to conceive for several YEARS now with no success. I have had every fertility test under the sun. I have been poked, injected, inseminated, dye tested, ovarian reserve looked at, both tubes perfect and finally told that I have "unexplained infertility."

I was told my only hope of conceiving would be through IVF, and then in the next breath I heard ''but your BMI is 44, and we need you to lose 30 pounds, and then we can help you.' This of course was after being told I have ''low ovarian reserve" as I approach the infamous age of 35. So, we need you to lose the ...
